— The Wolf Lumber Standard
Stave Core Engineering
In the high-stakes world of architectural door manufacturing, the difference between a project that stands for a century and one that fails in a season often comes down to internal engineering. At Wolf Lumber & Millwork, we have perfected our Engineered Stile and Rail Parts, Scantlings, and Panels — a system designed for superior performance, reduced waste, and immediate shop-floor readiness.
By moving beyond traditional solid lumber and embracing advanced engineering, we provide you with components that are not only more stable but are also "machine-ready," allowing you to streamline your lead times and maximize your profit margins.
The Efficiency Advantage
One of the primary benefits of partnering with Wolf Lumber is the ability to order exact widths and lengths for your stiles and rails. This precision provides several key business advantages:
Exact Cost Measuring
Customers continue to do business with us because of our commitment to serve them with honesty and integrity while providing high-quality products.
Minimal Waste
We handle the offcuts and the processing, so you don’t deal with disposal or the cost of unused material.
Reduced Labor
Our machine-ready material lets your team move straight to assembly and finishing — improving lead time from day one.

Why Choose Engineered
Over Solid Wood?
While solid lumber has its place, the sheer physics of a large door can lead to issues like warping, twisting, and bowing when exposed to fluctuating humidity. Our engineering process is specifically designed to provide the stability required to withstand both the test of time and the elements.
By moving beyond traditional solid lumber and embracing advanced engineering, we provide you with components that are not only more stable but are also “machine-ready” — allowing you to streamline your lead times and maximize your profit margins.
Our process allows customers to order exact widths and lengths for stiles and rails, providing precise cost measurement and minimizing waste at every stage of your production.
The Anatomy Of WOlf Lumber
Stave Core Stiles
Our door stiles are the backbone of our engineered system. We utilize a multi-step lamination process that cancels out the natural stresses found in wood, ensuring a straight and true component — every time.

The Stave Core
Customers continue to do business with us because of our commitment to serve them with honesty and integrity while providing high-quality products.

Solid Edges
We laminate full-length solid wood edges onto each side of the core. This provides the “meat” needed for hinges, locks, and edge profiling while maintaining the look of a solid board.

Face Veneers
We finish the assembly by laminating high-quality face veneers on both surfaces, delivering a consistent, clean appearance ready for your finishing process

Final Machining
To ensure your shop can get right to work, our stiles are machined surfaced on two edges and precision-sanded on both faces — shop-floor ready on arrival.
- Optional Upgrade
Custom Edge Profiling
We don’t just provide flat parts. If your project requires specific architectural details, we can profile one or both edges to your exact specifications — delivering a component that is ready for the assembly bench without any additional machining on your end.

High-Performance Scantlings
For parts requiring even greater thickness or structural density, we manufacture scantlings. These are produced by face-gluing two to five layers of premium lumber together.
This layered approach creates an incredibly rigid component that is virtually immune to the movement seen in solid timber of the same thickness — a critical advantage for exterior door and window applications.
The Integrity of Our Bond
The glue we use is just as important as the wood itself. For all of our stiles and scantlings, we exclusively use Franklin’s Multi-bond SK8 Type 1 waterproof glue.
- Waterproof Performance: This is a Type 1 glue, making it suitable for exterior doors that face the harshest weather.
- Error-Free Manufacturing: By using a pre-mixed industrial glue, we eliminate mixing mistakes at the factory level, ensuring the absolute integrity of the bond in every piece we ship.
Versatile Panels: From Standard to Rim Raised
A door is incomplete without its panels, and we offer two distinct ways to achieve the look and performance your client demands.
- Edge-Glued Panels: For a traditional look, we produce panels from different widths of premium lumber, edge-glued together to reach your final required width. These are sanded and ready for your shapers.
- Rim Raised Panels: For the ultimate in stability and architectural depth, we can produce a specialized engineered panel. We start with a stable core, glue a solid wood rim around the outside perimeter, and then laminate thin faces on both sides. This creates a panel that allows for deep raising profiles without the risk of splitting or shrinking.
